danny@casarotto.co.ukElla is an award-winning film and TV director based in London. Her recent and upcoming television work includes HBO's upcoming comedy horror series 'The Baby', 'Back to Life' for BBC1/BBC3, ‘Pandemonium' for BBC1, and 'Behind the Filter’ for BBC3.
Ella recently won 'Best Comedy Director' at the RTS Craft Awards 2020 for her work directing the second season of BBC3 Comedy series Enterprice, written by and starring Kayode Ewumi for Fudge Park productions. The show was also nominated for a Broadcast Digital Award for Best Comedy Programme, where Ella’s comedy miniseries ‘Fully Blown’ (for BBC3/Studio 71) was also nominated for Best Short-Form Scripted. She has also directed comedy tasters for BBC Studios and Channel 4, and co-created several series which are currently in development.
Ella’s short films have played at festivals internationally including Phoenix, LOCO, Cambridge and Encounters. Her short film ‘Sarah Chong is Going to Kill Herself’ was made through Creative England’s ‘Funny Girls’ scheme. She recently finished post-production on 'Miss Fortunate' a short comedy drama by writer Molly O'Shea, starring Alex Lawther and Ben Whishaw, and 'Petra', a short drama written by and starring Charlotte Hamblin.
Ella is currently being mentored by BAFTA-winning director Becky Martin (Veep, Succession) through BFI Network's BAFTA Crew scheme, and she has also taken part in BFI Network@LFF and Berlinale Talents.
Ella began her career as a professional actress and has also worked extensively as a script editor, including on the first two series of David Farr’s 8x1hr Amazon show ‘Hanna’. She was Story Editor on his new series 'Midwich Cuckoos' for Sky. She has a double first in History from Cambridge University.
