Hassan Akkad is a writer and filmmaker from Syria best known for his work as a human rights activist. Currently, he's working on a tv project for BBC, he's co-writing a limited series with Jack Thorne and he's working on his debut feature which is based off his short "Matar" for BBC Films. He's credited as the Associate Producer on Working Title's "The Swimmers" and he's the creative director of Choose Love. He rose to prominence after filming his journey from Syria to the UK as a refugee which got mass attention, including a BAFTA award for Best Factual Series or Strand in 2017 and, in 2021 he published his memoir Hope Not Fear. In 2020, amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, Hassan worked as a volunteer for the NHS at Whipps Cross Hospital in East London.
