Ruby Phelan

Ruby trained as a dancer at The Northern School of Contemporary Dance before attending the Fontainebleau School of Acting in France. She received a full scholarship for the MA in Directing & Writing at RADA. Ruby’s short films THE MERMAID & THE ARTIST and THIS GIRL LOST HER BODY have won numerous awards and a nomination at Cannes Short Film Festival. Ruby was Director’s Assistant on Season 5 of THE CROWN and directed two sold-out London stage productions HONEYPOT (The Other Palace Theatre) and GLASSBOY (Coronet Theatre, Hen & Chickens Theatre). In 2023, she was supported by The Young Vic Genesis Network to co-write series SWINE. With her producer Cheri Darbon she is the inaugural Activist in Residence at the Feminist Centre for Racial Justice. For their short film THE WOMAN IN THE WARDROBE (made during their residency) Ruby and Cheri have partnered with the UN to fundraise for birthing kits to be sent to labouring women and health professionals in warzones. Ruby is now writing her debut feature, VIPER.
