Sonya Desai has recently written on SMILLA’S SENSE OF SNOW adapted from Peter Høeg’s best-selling novel with Constantin Film, and NAUTILUS with Seven Stories, Moonriver TV and Amazon Prime. She currently has projects in development with Wild Atlantic and Carnival/Starz.
Sonya graduated from the prestigious C4 Screenwriting Programme, during which she wrote her ambitious conspiracy sci-fi SOLE. Her strengths as a writer lie in the nuanced and complex characters she creates both in her work in comedy and drama, and her ability to entertain while exploring big themes.
Half-Indian and half-Irish, she was previously a journalist at BBC World, The Today Programme, and Bloomberg TV. She combined this with working as a freelance script editor and writing spec scripts, which led to a feature film commission from Creative Minds Films. Her comedy script MISSING CHAPTERS won bronze in the PAGE International Screenwriting Awards.
