William Stefan Smith

William is a BAFTA award winning writer and director from South London who most recently directed on the upcoming fifth series of TOP BOY after receiving critical acclaim and a BAFTA for Director: Fiction for his work directing the finale of series four.

He also recently lead directed the second series of Armando Iannucci's sci-fi comedy series AVENUE 5 for HBO & Sky, having previously directed the final episode of the first series. In the UK, Will directed BBW as part of Channel 4's On The Edge series, which earned him two BAFTA nominations (Single Drama and Emerging Talent), and TWO SINGLE BEDS, a critically acclaimed short written by and starring Daniel Kaluuya.

Will previously studied the MFA Filmmaking course at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, where he received the Hollywood Foreign Press Award for his short HOSTESS, the BAFTA LA scholarship twice in a row, and the Lora Hays Award for Documentary Editing.

He then went on to work at the BBC, where he produced THE TIM WESTWOOD DRIVETIME SHOW for BBC Radio 1Xtra and received a Sony Award for Best Entertainment Show, as well as working with the BBC's New Comedy Department, sourcing new talent and developing comedy TV pilots and viral content for the web.
